CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM

  • Our goal is to provide an opportunity for all participants to learn (1) proper warm-up techniques; (2) how to run longer distances at your own pace; (3) running etiquette; and (4) the rewards of conditioning.
  • Practices start late in August or early September and end the last week of October. Practices will be held on Monday and Thursday from 5:45 PM to 7:00 PM at the Elementary School Track.
    · Practices vary from running distances up to 3 miles, interval and hill workouts.
  • To measure progress of each individual runner, two-timed mile runs will be held – one in the early part of the season and the second toward the end of the season. The results are to show progress of the individual, not to compare one runner to another.
    · Individual goals are established which includes:
    · Improvement of the mile run time
    · Number of miles run during the season
  • Cross-country meets/events are usually held on Saturdays and consists of the following:
    · Three 5K (3.1 miles) running events, held at various locations around the city
    · Breakfast run held at Sharon Woods – a run around the loop of the lake followed by a breakfast.
    · Lunch run held at Nesbitt Park – a run out and back on the bike trail followed by a lunch
  • Any questions concerning the Cross Country Program please contact either Paul Zinnecker at 791-8246 or Doug Slagle at 561-2112.
